The Sound Technician 4.0: teaching acoustics and artificial intelligence
In spring 2023 Gianmarco taught Acoustics and Artificial Intelligence in Music on COM 2’s course «The new Sound Technician 4.0», co-funded by the Emilia-Romagna Region and the European Union: in class in Parma and online.
A sound technician no longer works only behind a mixing desk. They rig a concert, take a show to streaming, record in the hall with tools that did not exist a few years ago. To train this new profile, in 2023 COM 2, a Piacenza provider accredited for higher education and training, ran the course «The new Sound Technician 4.0»: from live shows and interactive streaming platforms to studio recording with artificial intelligence and the latest digital tools. The course was co-funded by the Emilia-Romagna Region and the European Union.
Two subjects
Between April and May 2023 Gianmarco taught two subjects, in class in Parma, at ON/OFF, and online:
- Acoustics: how sound is born, how it travels and why a hall sounds the way it does.
- Artificial intelligence in music: what these tools can do today for those who record, mix and bring music to the stage.
Our work, in class
As examples, the work we were doing: rooms rebuilt in 3D with their sound, and the first results of the research at the University of Georgia, which began in those months. Among them was Nebulacusmatica, a cloud of particles that moves with the sound, in two dimensions and in virtual reality.
