Three albums to tell: Bernelich’s Suggestioni, violin caprices, Mercadante

Between 2021 and 2025 three musicians asked us to accompany an album: the filming in the Nicolini’s concert hall for Patrizia Bernelich’s Suggestioni, the trailer and videos of a solo violin concert, the trailer and interviews for the Mercadante quartets recorded by the flautist Mario Carbotta.

A pianist plays an open grand piano on the wooden stage of the Nicolini’s concert hall, filmed from above; in front of the piano’s tail two microphones on stands, behind it the wooden slats and the organ console.

An album, once recorded, has to be told: a trailer that lets people hear it, the pieces on video, a voice explaining where it comes from. Between 2021 and 2025 we did it for three musicians.

Patrizia Bernelich’s Suggestioni

On 10 February 2021, in the Nicolini Conservatory’s concert hall, we filmed Patrizia Bernelich’s Suggestioni op. 1: thirteen short pieces, each with a title and a subtitle, from Barcarola (Sogno) to Luce d’inverno (Racconto), from Oltre le nuvole (Poesia) to Piove (Schizzo).

Three camera positions: from below, from above and from the gallery. The audio was edited piece by piece, on the timings of the best takes, and the same edit served for the video and for the CD master. Then the video in 4K, with the titles of the thirteen pieces.

A violinist and the caprices of the 19th century

In January 2021, for a violinist, the trailer of an album of 19th-century Italian violin music. Filming on 26 and 27 January, audio on a Zoom recorder, and inside it the images of the period: the portraits of Ferdinando Giorgetti, Onorio De Vito and Carlo Bignami, the title pages of B. Ferrara’s Sei preludi per violino and Giuseppe Austri’s Due capricci per violino solo. The trailer was ready in mid-February.

At the end of 2021 we filmed him in concert, solo violin, with three cameras, and edited one video per piece, up to the third version in June 2022: Austri, Capriccio op. 9 no. 1; Bignami, Aracne caprice; Giorgetti, Preludio e Capriccio; De Vito, the theme of Io te vojo bene assaje; and a caprice by Paganini.

Mercadante, for Mario Carbotta

In 2023 the flautist Mario Carbotta had a new album: Saverio Mercadante’s Quartets for Flute and Strings, a world première recording, made with Mario Hossen, Marta Potulska and Attilia Kiyoko Cernitori and released by Dynamic, with Swiss Radio and Television (RSI).

On 5 September 2023 we interviewed him, and then edited the album trailer, with a track from the CD and the photos and videos of the recording sessions. Four versions, between 17 September and 2 October, subtitled too. In 2025, a second interview.
